How do I change my CNS VPS Administrator password?

There are 3 ways to change the Administrator password for your CNS VPS. Please be sure that you read the whole set of instructions for your chosen method and that you understand them clearly to avoid issues before trying the steps.

 

** AREA "A" OF THE WEBSITE CURRENTLY UNDER CONSTRUCTION. PLEASE USE METHOD B OR C.

(A) Our CNS VPS Control Panel can be used to set your password from the VPS details page in your Client Area:

This feature will require that CNS Remote Admin is installed in your VPS

  1. Click "My Products & Services"
  2. Click the "View Details" button for your VPS Subscription
  3. Type your new password into the "Reset Administrator/root password" field
  4. Click the "Reset Password" button to make the change

 

(B) Your VPS Administrator password can be set from inside the VM (confirmation):

Usethe CTRL+ALT+END key combination to bring up the Windows Security menu. You can also use the "Windows Security" icon in your Start menu if it is available.

 

(C) You can also make the change from the Command Line (no confirmation):

For 2003:

  1. Click the "Start" button then click "Run..."
  2. In the Run box type: "cmd" then press ENTER
  3. In the CMD window type "net user Administrator new_pass"
  4. Press ENTER to set your new password

**Replace "new_pass" with your new password

For 2008/2012:

  1. Click the "Start" button then in the Search box type: "cmd"
  2. Right-click the Command Prompt icon then select "Run as Administrator"
  3. In the CMD window type "net user Administrator new_pass"
  4. Press ENTER to set your new password

**Replace "new_pass" with your new password
