VPN Setup Guide for Android
Posted by Barry Bahrami on 30 October 2015 08:34 PM

NOTE:  We strongly recommend the OpenVPN for Android client is used on Android devices, along with the Open VPN configuration files.  Although the method detailed below can be used to connect from your Android, it uses preshared keys which is a security risk for some people.

The Open VPN Application for Android can be found here.

OpenVPN configuration files can be found in the control panel.

Alternatively, here are setup instructions using a (public) preshared key.

Android VPN Setup:

  1. Initial configurations (only needs to be setup the first time)

Start the "Settings" application on Android.

In the "Wireless & Networks" / “Network Connections” / “More Networks”

Tap "VPN".

Click the "Add VPN profile" / “VPN” / “Basic VPN” button to create a new VPN connection setting.

Tap “+” to Add New

A new VPN connection setting editing screen will appear.

(Choose the location nearest you)

IPSec pre-shared key       vpnvpnvpn

NOTE:  Preshared key can be considered less secure in some situations.  We are releasing a PPTP version of the same service very soon without preshared keys.

(On your “CNS New VPN” email)

Scroll down the configuration screen, and tap the "Show advanced options" checkbox

DNS Servers – Not Used

"Forwarding routes" (to send all traffic to through the VPN, otherwise enter a list of prefixes separated by spaces.)

After all inputted, tap the "Save" button and save the VPN connection setting.

Open the VPN connection settings list (from where you just set up the VPN connection)

Enter both "Username" and "Password" fields, and check "Save account information" .

Tap "Connect" to start the VPN connection.  Enter login and password.
